Sensei Julie
Hi! My name is Julie Schummer and I am a second degree black belt in American Freestyle Karate and lead instructor here at Landshark Martial Arts
for all age groups. I am 21 years old and I have been doing martial arts my whole life.
My dad had me punching and kicking before I could walk and I’ve loved it ever since! I
obtained my black belt in September of 2019 and that is when I started my teaching journey.
Teaching is one of my passions and I am always enthusiastic to be in the studio with our
wonderful team of instructors and students!
Sam "Coach B"
I have been practicing martial arts since 2010 and holds Dan ranks in both Okinawan Shorei-Ryu and American Freestyle Karate.
I have studied under Master Curtiss Huff, Grandmaster Bob Lee and Grandmaster Roy La Barton Gay. I regularily compete in sport karate tournaments and trains others to do the same.
I specialize in traditional kata, traditional weapons, and love to spar. Above all else, I am a lifelong student always willing to learn new things and accept new perspectives.
Kara Poquette
My name is Karalynn Poquette, and I am a practitioner and teacher of American Freestyle Karate. I go by Ms. Kara (care-uh), or Ms. Poquette (poke-et).
The various studios I have trained under include Karate American, Legacy Martial Arts, Red Dragon Academy, and Land Shark Martial Arts.
I was once a part of a team called Impact, and have won countless trophies from tournaments I participaed in before I earned my black belt.
I recieved my black belt in 2016, and my second degree in 2020. I then fell in love with teaching and helping others' grow like I did.
My Favorite thing about being a teacher is getting to listen to the innovative thoughts of students, and cultivating their creativity, confidence,
and understanding of both karate and the world around them.
Sensei Tou
Jiu-jitsu instructor / Blue Belt - representing Team Vaghi Northern
Region.
My journey into BJJ started back in 2014 when i moved to
Silver Spring, MD where i did not know anyone but wanted to meet new people
and stay physically active. I decided I should learn a martial art and
recalled one of th emain foundations of mixed martial arts (MMA) is Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu. I googled the nearest BJJ gym and came across Bartman MMA
- Gracie Jiu-Jitsu - Self Defence. I attended my first class and caught
what many would say the "Jiu-Jitsu Bug" and was instantly all in. I trained under Professor
Greg Bartman in Gracie Self-Defense for three years. In 2017 I moved back to
Wisconsin to be closer to my family and started training under Professor
Bill Krieg. I am excited to bring BJJ to Land Shark Martial Arts focused on
self-defense and the development of self-improvement.
